Offa/Erin-Ile Feud - Gov. Ahmed Calls for Calm

Date: 2013-01-31

The Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has again urged the people of Offa and Erin-Ile in Offa and Oyun Local Government Areas of the State, to embrace peace by halting the spate of violence currently going on between the two communities.

Governor Ahmed, who described the killing of innocent citizens and destruction of properties between the two hitherto friendly neighbours as cruel and barbaric, called for immediate cessation of hostility and restoration of peace and order in the communities. The Governor promised to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to justice as "government will not condole any act of lawlessness from any individual or community".

Governor Ahmed, therefore, directed traditional rulers of the two communities to hemceforth, maintain peacefull coexistence in their communities or be prepared to shoulder the dire consequences.

According to governor Ahmed, "it's by sheer providence that Offa and Erin-Ile found each other as neighbours. Both communities must, therefore, show gratitude God by living together in harmony. Efforts of the state government to bring development to the state may continue to be a mirage in the atmosphere of violence and destruction."

"Government will continue to take every positive step to attract investment to the state, create more youth jobs and promote youth enterpreneuship through adequate support for skill acquisition", the governor reiterated. He, therefore called for cooperation from all Kwarans to support government to deliver the benefits of democracy by maintaining the peace with which the state is known.

Governor Ahmed emphasised that the security forces would fish out the brains behind the current public disturbance of peace between the two communities and made to face the full wrath of the law, adding that Government would not tolerate lawlessness, hence the imposition of 24-hour curfew in Offa and Erin-Ile.

Governor Ahmed assured that other measures are been taken to guarantee that all law abiding people in all parts of the State carry out their legitimate activities without any form of molestation.

Abdulwahab Oba,
Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor.
