Kwara Police recover 170 guns, arrest 13 cultists
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police,Mr Saliu Garba has disclosed that his command had recovered about 170 guns from local manufacturers and arrested 13 suspected cultists in the state.
The Commissioner of Police who disclosed this on Thursday during a courtesy visit of Kwara State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria(NYCN) at the Police Headquarters, Ilorin called for sustained synergy with critical stakeholders to effectively stamp out cultism and other illicit acts in the state.
He described the recent spate of cultism, political thuggery and other nefarious acts in the society as disturbing, stressing that the youth must distance themselves from acts capable of disrupting the existing peace and harmony in the State.
Garba who recalled the recent recovery of about one hundred and seventy guns from a local manufacturer as well as the arrest of thirteen suspected cultists, said the Command will leave no stone unturned contain the situation.
The Commissioner of Police commended the Council for being proactive in its approach to champion the course of sustainable development and charged the youth not to succumb to the misguided antics of politicians, rather contribute their positive quota to sustaining the democratic process before, during and after the general elections.
Earlier, the Chairman of the State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Kazeem Adekanye said that the visit by the Council was among other things to collaborate with the Police Command in the state due to the recent trend in the political terrain and cult clashes in the state for lasting solutions.
The Council Chairman who described the Council as a conglomerate of different voluntary groups across the state restated its determination to continue to re-orientate the youth on the need to shun all acts capable of causing disharmony in the State.
