Foodstuff prices remain stable in Ilorin as Ramadan approaches - Survey
Less than three weeks to the commencement of the Muslim Ramadan fasting. period, the prices of foodstuffs have remained stable in markets within Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
A survey by NAN in selected markets, focused on the major staple food such as rice, beans, corn, guinea corn and yam flour, among others.
the price of a 50 kg bag of rice sold for between N7,400 and N8,600 depending on the brand.
A small sack of white beans was sold between N14,000 and N15,000 while Oloyin beans (honey beans) was sold between N13,000 and N13,500.
NAN also confirmed that a sack of yam flour sold for between N28,000 and N30,000 just as a sack of wheat was sold for N10,500.
A bucket measurement of garri goes for between N2,000 and N2,200 while millet was sold for N1,400.
NAN reports that it is common for traders to deliberately hiked the prices of foodstuff to maximise profit during Ramadan.
Meanwhile, a trader, Iya Barakat at Ipata market told NAN that food prices had remained the same in the last one month, adding that there was no fear of an upsurge.
Other markets visited were Yoruba Road and Ago Markets now known as Nana Aishat Bolanta market. (NAN)
