Unilorin Don urges government to get youths engaged

Date: 2013-05-24

The money spent on pilgrimage sponsorship by the various governments is better expended on ameliorating the condition of poor in the Nigerian society.

Professor of Islamic Studies, Yasiir Quadri of the Department of Religions, University of Ilorin who made this assertion at the one hundred and Thirty third Inaugural lecture of the institution, titled "all in the name of God" said unemployment rate in the country is at the high level.

According to him, the youths in particular are idle and they must be rescued from the devil's workshop of armed robbery, kidnapping and terrorism. Government must find lasting solution by creating meaningful jobs and empowering the youths.

Professor Quadri explained that the wide gap between the rich and the poor must be bridged to enable all experience peace and tranquility in the country.

He lamented that the beneficiaries of the sponsorship do not deserve it as the poor Muslims who ought to be considered are not.
