Kwara Speaker Congratulate Re-elected NUJ Chairman and Council Members
According to a news report from Voice of Nigeria, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, and the Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Saliu Mustapha, have offered their heartfelt congratulations to Mallam Abdulateef Lanre Ahmed on his successful re-election as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council.
Danladi-Salihu also celebrated the victory of the other elected council members, acknowledging the competitive nature of the poll.
“Heartfelt congratulations to the re-elected Chairman of the NUJ Kwara State Chapter, and other elected executive members, this is a well-deserved achievement, and I wish you all the best in your new role. May your leadership continue to bring about positive change and progress to the union and the journalism profession as a whole,”the Kwara state House of Assembly Speaker said.
He also stated that Ahmed's dedication, expertise, and passion for journalism would undoubtedly inspire and motivate others.
The Speaker, on behalf of the Kwara State House of Assembly, looked forward to a continued smooth relationship between the legislative arm of the government and the members of the fourth estate of the realm.
Also, Senator Mustapha praised Mallam Abdulateef's dedication and leadership, expressing confidence that he will build upon his previous achievements and continue to thrive.
He also extended his felicitations to the other newly elected officials, urging them to work towards the unity and progress of the NUJ in Kwara.
The lawmaker assured the Chairman and the executive committee of his full support and looked forward to maintaining a continuous and productive relationship with the media.
He wished them a successful tenure, acknowledging the importance of a strong and vibrant press in the state.
Similarly, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, called on the newly inaugurated members of the State Working Committee of the Kwara State Council of the NUJ to foster unity within the council and justify the confidence their peers reposed in them.
Ajakaye praised the national leadership of the NUJ for the maturity and wisdom displayed in managing the election process.
“Despite the challenges, the successful conduct of this election is a testament to the maturity and democratic values that the NUJ upholds,” he said.
Ajakaye made these remarks while receiving the leadership of the Kwara State Council of the NUJ, led by its chairman, Abdullateef 'Lanre Ahmed, during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Ilorin.
He urged the newly elected SWC members, under the leadership of 'Lanre Ahmed, to extend an olive branch to all members who participated in the election.
“The members have chosen their leaders through their votes. It is now time to work together, leaving behind any election-related tension. Unity is paramount for achieving the council's objectives,” he stated.
Ajakaye also emphasised the importance of decorum and respectful communication among union members.
“There was some tension before and during the election, which is natural in human environment. However, it is crucial for the leadership to promote unity and discourage the use of foul language on the NUJ WhatsApp Platform,” he stated.
Government Support
He reassured the union of the state government's continued support, saying that collaborative efforts were necessary for the betterment of both the union and the state's populace.
“The state government will remain a steadfast partner to the NUJ. Together, we can accomplish much more for the welfare of our members and the people of Kwara State,” Ajakaye added.
Earlier, Abdullateef 'Lanre Ahmed, the re-elected chairman of the Kwara State Council of NUJ, pledged to foster inclusivity within the union.
“Our administration will reach out to all members, including those on the opposing side, to ensure a unified and strong council. We seek more government support to enhance our activities and serve our members better,” Ahmed said.
Ahmed assured that the new leadership would open a new chapter in the history of the Kwara State NUJ, aiming for an administration that welcomes positive contributions from all members.
“We are committed to an inclusive approach, where every member's voice is heard and valued,” he added.
