Yellow Fever: Kwara vaccinates 200,000 in 3 days

The Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Sulaiman Atolagbe Alege has said that not less than 200,000 people have been vaccinated within three days of the ongoing yellow fever reactive vaccination in the state.

Speaking in a telephone chat with Pilot Health last night, Atolagbe stated that 960,000 vaccines have been deployed for nine communities in the state. "The vaccination is taking place in Ifelodun local government and eight others comprising Isin, Ilorin South, Ilorin East, Irepodun, Oke-Ero and others.

"About 960,000 vaccines is be deployed and for now we have immunised close to 200,000 people for the first 3 days," he said.

The commissioner, who described the turnout as impressive, explained that people were massively mobilised through the use of town criers and community informant. He added that the health education unit of the ministry was also on ground to ensure efficient participation.

He said that the monitoring team, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and National Health Care Development Agency teams visited some communities for monitoring.

According to him, the state government remains committed to ensuring good health for citizens.

Meanwhile the vaccination which commenced at the weekend will terminate on Sunday October 22, 2017.
