Kwara creates 120,000 meningitis vaccination points
The Kwara state government, North Central Nigeria has created 120,000 vaccination points in Kwara State to effectively carry out an ongoing meningitis vaccination exercise in the state.
The State's Epidemiologist from the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Oguntoye Michael said the vaccine introduced to Nigeria three years ago would be used to vaccinate people between the ages of one to 29 which constitutes 70% of the population.
He stated this on Saturday while answering questions from VON Correspondent in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, North Central Nigeria.
"The vaccine could be taken in all health centres, both private and public, while temporary points were also created in schools and accessible places," Dr. Michael said.
Safe for pregnant women
Dr. Michael identified restiveness, vomiting among children, fever as some of the symptoms saying that the vaccine is safe for pregnant women and breast feeding mothers.
"The disease is caused by micro organisms and the general public should to avoid overcrowded places, cooking in the room and avoid close contact with people suffering from the disease," he added.
