Court Remands 6 Suspected Cultists in Kwara
An Ilorin Magistrate’s Court yesterday remanded six students of a tertiary institution in the state for their alleged involvement in cultism.
The six accused persons were dragged to court on the charges of criminal conspiracy, mischief and membership of a secret cult.
The offences, according to the prosecution, contravene Sections 97, 327 of Penal Code and Section 11 (1) of Secret Cult and Secret Society in Educational Institution (prohibition) Law 2001.
According to the police First Information Report (FIR), four of the accused, Ibukun Ajayi, Julius Emmanuel, Kolapo Alabi, Adetayo Ademula, in possession of dangerous weapons including guns and cutlasses, attacked four houses at Odo Owa in Kwara-South. They were said to have damaged valuables belonging to residents of the houses.
The prosecution added that investigation showed that the four accused as well as Olanrewaju Ajayi, Israel Ajayi and others at large are members of the Eiye secret cult and have been terrorizing Odo Owa community for some time. The accused pleaded not guilty to the crimes. Magistrate Shuaib Salihu ordered that they be remanded at Oke Kura Prison in Ilorin and adjourned the case to September 1.
