NSCD nabs pipeline vandals in Ilorin
The suspects; Taiye Buhari, 40, of Isale Jagun and Usman Olushola, 42, of Olojoku compound, Pakata area in the metropolis were on Sunday nabbed by the NSCDC along Afon-Laduba road in Asa Local Government Council of the state. Community Mirror gathered that the suspects vandalised the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, at about 1.30am siphoning fuel when men of the NSCDC who were on routine surveillance arrived the scene.
A fuel tanker and an 18-seater bus with Oyo number plates, XA 773 WEL and XB 954 AME respectively as well as a Toyota Corolla car with Kwara number AR 351 KEY were found at the scene including a generating set, pumping machine, and three long fuel hoses. Speaking to journalists at the scene, the State NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Yerima Gana said; "The suspected vandals on sighting our officers opened fire on them but they were overpowered by the superior firepower of our men."
He added; "Three of the suspects were later arrested following a tip off by commercial motorcyclists who carried the fleeing vandals. "Our men have been monitoring pipelines for 24 hours since my assumption of office. I hereby warned vandals to relocate as the state will no longer conducive for them."
He also charged members of the public to continue to support the command by giving useful information that could lead to the arrest of vandals. The suspects according to him will today be charged before a Federal High Court.
