2015 Kwara governorship ambition polarizes Saraki, Gov. Ahmed

Date: 2014-07-19

The race to occupy Kwara government house come 2015 has started, and the combatants are back in the trenches. The incumbent governor Abdulfatah Ahmed tipped to continue in office is said to have fallen apart with former governor and present god father of Kwara politics, Senator Bukola Saraki.

Sources hinted ENCOMIUM Weekly that there is a crack between the two at the moment over the governor’s alleged romance with the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The aftermath effect of the Ekiti governorship poll where Ayo Fayose won on a landslide is coming to play in the politics of Kwara. There is palpable fear that the state may also lose the governorship seat to PDP because of what happened in Ekiti state, but APC loyalists in the state believe the achievement of governor Abdulfatah Ahmed ordinarily confer on him automatic ticket for a second term irrespective of whether he is anointed by Senator Saraki or not. “If Governor Ahmed does not receive the blessings of Saraki for the second term ticket, the people would still vote for him whichever platform he chooses based on his track record”, our source disclosed. Presently there is an immense lobbying going on among APC members seeking the attention of Senator Saraki, should he drop governor Ahmed for 2015 guber poll.

Prince Yemi Afolayan, the secretary of the APC in Kwara said it is too early to be discussing who occupies government house next year, “it is too early to start talking of the APC governorship in Kwara, moreso we have a boss in the person of Senator Bukola Saraki who is our indisputed leader. The issue is simple, the media is making mountain out of molehill. Saraki our leader in his wisdom will make it categorical at the right time”.
