Kwara Speaker charges fellow politicians on tolerance

Date: 2014-01-14

Kwara State House of Assembly Speaker Rasak Atunwa has urged the nation’s leaders to demonstrate love, tolerance, piety, nationalism and patriotism in their undertakings at each level of their responsibilities.

Atunwa also urged them to support efforts aimed at promoting the nation’s greatness.

The Speaker gave this charge yesterday in his message to Muslims ahead of tomorrow’s Maolud Nnabiyy celebrations.

He urged Muslims, particularly those in positions of authority, to imbibe the virtues of forgiveness, love, piety, humility, transparency, tolerance and perseverance of Prophet Muhammed to make Nigeria a better place to live.

According to him, Prophet Muhammed was one of the perfect human beings ever created and whose conduct should be emulated by all and sundry to enhance the stability, peace, co-existence and progress of Nigeria

The Speaker noted that Nigeria had the wherewithal to be great by any standard and therefore urged politicians to eschew acts and utterances capable of overheating the polity.

Atunwa praised Muslims and Christians in Kwara State for promoting peaceful co-existence among themselves.

He, however, urged the executive arm of government in the state to continue to ensure equitable distribution of dividends of democracy to the people, which he promised the legislature under him would always demand
