Don Lists Guidelines for Successful Campus Life
A Lecturer at the Department of English and Drama, Kaduna State University, Dr. Olatunde Ayodabo, has given some tips on how students can live a successful campus life.
Speaking at a public lecture organised by the Kwara State chapter of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association recently, the associate professor of English, told the students that avoiding deviant behaviours like inappropriate dressing and examination malpractices are some of the conditions for a purposeful university life.
In the lecture entitled Life in the University, Ayodabo also advised students to "aim high, work harder, seek support from God, study well and engage in exercise and relaxation regularly."
The university don further advised students to "prepare for more academic activities, acquire effective learning and study skills, ensure effective time management, ensure judicious use of resources, obey university regulations, learn to compromise, and be wary of joining student groups and clubs."
Discussing the various facets of life lived by students, the guest lecturer noted that the university campus gives students a taste of freedom that exposes them to risky sexual behaviours, cultism, and other corrupt practices that may endanger their future. These attitudes, Ayodabo noted, are promoted by globalisation and population explosion in the campuses.
Earlier in his remarks, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, disclosed that the high level of discipline at the University of Ilorin is one of the reasons the institution is the most sought-after by admission seekers in the country.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Bayo Lawal, he said alumni associations of universities are a very powerful interest and pressure group that represents a critical stakeholder in any university. He added that the university's alumni association had been doing wonderful things as the vanguard of protecting the good image of UNILORIN.
