2027: ADC Governorship Candidate Zakari Mohammed Pledges Free Healthcare for Senior Citizens in Kwara
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kwara State, Rt. Hon. Zakari Mohammed, has pledged to implement free healthcare services for residents aged 65 and above, alongside administrative reforms to eliminate delays in processing retirement benefits if elected governor.
Mohammed made the commitments during an interactive session with members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) at the union's office in Offa Local Government Area of the state.
The consultation provided a platform for the ADC candidate and party leaders to engage retired public servants, recognize their contributions to state development, and outline policy measures targeting elderly welfare.
Accompanied by his running mate, Elder Olawuyi Julius Olayide, and other ADC candidates, Mohammed stated that his administration would prioritize the dignity, health, and economic wellbeing of senior citizens.
Under the proposed welfare package, an ADC-led state government will provide free comprehensive medical services, including diagnostic care and essential medications, for Kwara residents aged 65 and above.
Addressing pension administration, the candidate promised a systemic overhaul of the state retirement process, pledging that retirement documentation and financial entitlements would be fully processed six months prior to an employee's official retirement date.
He noted that the policy is designed to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks, alleviate financial hardship for retiring civil servants, and ensure a seamless transition out of public service.
On state security, Mohammed stated that his administration would focus on enhancing intelligence gathering, expanding community-based security architectures, improving multi-agency coordination, and deploying digital technology across Kwara State.
The ADC delegation also highlighted the broader economic framework of the party, pointing to national policy proposals aimed at lowering fuel prices and reducing living costs for citizens.
Other party officials present at the engagement included the ADC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon. Tope Olayonu; candidate for Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Hon. Asanloko Abiodun Takit; and candidate for Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency, Hon. Abiodun.
The meeting formed part of the party's ongoing consultations with socio-professional groups across the state ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
