Why We Donated 25-yr-Old Crocodile to Unilorin Zoo – Balogun Fulani

Date: 2024-11-22

The Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, Abubakar Atiku, has stated that the donation of a 25-year-old crocodile to the University of Ilorin Zoological Garden symbolises the enduring relationship between the university and its host community.

As noted in the university's bulletin, the gesture underscores a shared commitment to preserving tradition and fostering a strong bond between the institution and the Ilorin community.

Mr Atiku said the rearing of crocodiles holds significant cultural and symbolic value and served as a royal heritage and a centre of attraction.

The traditional leader said his family compound has long been associated with crocodile rearing, adding that it will be a remarkable addition to the growing animal collection of the zoo.

On his part, Olatunji Yusuf, General Manager of Unilorin zoo, described the event as unique; marking a significant milestone in the zoo's history.
