Esie-Iludun old students seek partnership with Kwara govt to revamp institution
Ilorin-Esie Iludun Grammar School Old Students Association is seeking members and other well-meaning Nigerians' partnership with the Kwara State government to revamp the school.
The President of Esie Iludun Grammar School Old Students Association, Prof Kunle Olawepo, who spoke weekend at the annual general meeting of the association in Ilorin, said the partnership was necessary to address the bad conditions of infrastructure in the school.
He also urged the students to focus on their studies and avoid several distractions, noting that the essence of the annual general meeting was to address the issues bedeviling the school and to reunite after years of leaving the school.
Prof Olawepo called on the old students of the school to give back to the school, saying “look back and give back to people and institutions that help you to get to where you are today. All over the world there are old students associations contributing their own bit to uplifting the standard, the status of their Alma mater.
However, like you have chosen to call it, to support government, it is not out of place to support the government. The crime start when government is trying to completely abdicate itself of its duties and to place everything on the old students association or completely taken its hands off the responsibility of educational development.
“You feel the inner urge to say where I stand today or where I sit today if not for this institution I may have gotten there. This call to partner with Kwara state government is important because the government alone cannot do it to our satisfaction because of other commitments.”
He however called on government to renovate, and revamp institutions, physical structures as well as quality of teachers in the school.
Prof Olawepo urged the students, “to be focused, read their book, determine to make a success a head way in life, be clear-headed in what they want to become in life and be sure they know the direction which they want their life to be channeled because there are so many vices.“
“There are so many things that can easily distract students as it is right now from concentrating on their studies.
“They should be focus, have a plan for their lives, have a vision for where they want to be in five-ten fifteen and twenty years time and keep true and keep straight with those vision.”
On his part, the Principal of the school, Mr. Tunde Tomori, who decried the challenges bedeviling the school in the area of science equipment, electricity, inadequate teachers, inadequate security, and distance from a town called on the government and stakeholders to come to their aid in tackling the challenges.
