Look Inward To Solve Boko Haram Insurgency, FG Charged

Date: 2012-07-22

With   the    spate of insecurity    in Nigeria,     the Director,    Kwara    State Council for Arts and Culture, Alhaji Yunoos Kareem,  has called    on    the    Federal Government to look inward in order to solve the security challenges in Nigeria.

Similarly, Kareem said there is no basis for government to import solution from abroad to solve security challenges in the country.

The director made the call in his address delivered at the N 5O million fundraising and launch of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Kwara State Chapter's Secretariat, Gaa Saka, Ilorin West Local Government Area on Sunday.

Kareem noted that for Nigeria turning to other countries in order to solve her problems would be tantamount to the government not having the wherewithal to address the issue.

He said without doubt if government is really interested in tackling the problems headlong, it should not hesitate to integrate the Vigilante Group of Nigeria members to the nation's security personnel because they are closer to the people at the grassroots.

Commending the vigilante group for its selfless efforts at maintaining peace and order in the communities, the director stressed that if it could be supported with necessary incentives and equipment, the group would perform better.

Kareem described the group as very essential to the society as it collaborated with other security agencies to rid the country of ill activities, appealing to government, corporate organisations and individuals to assist the group to further discharge its duties effectively.

In his address of welcome, the VGN Kwara State Commander, Alhaji AbdulRaheem Jimoh, said since inception of its activities in the state, the group had been supporting and assisting the police and other security agencies to ensure peace and order across the state.

Jimoh appreciated the state government for its encouragement and provision of some equipment, which he said, had immensely improved its performances. He said the group is ready to serve the state   better now that all members had come together under one umbrella.

According to him, "I want to appeal to the public to always support us for better performance, because police alone cannot be everywhere and security of lives and properties is the duty of everybody."

The programme, held at the headquarters of the command, Gaa-Saka, along Ita-Nmo Ogundele road, had Alhaji Jimoh Adesina as chairman, while the former acting National Chairman of PDP, Kawu Baraje as Launcher.

Other dignitaries at the event includes Hajia Aminat Obalola as chairlady, while Engineer Kola Ibrahim, Director Bito Group and Alhaji Abdulganiyu Omoola, Director KASMAG; Alhaji Yinka Aluko, S.A Security to the State Governor and Alhaji Oba Ajara served as co-host at the events.

The State Commander, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Serikin Daji, Alhaji Abdulraheem Jimoh was the Chief Host.
