Chanel N5,000 unemployment allowance to fruitful projects - Group
The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has called on the federal government to channel the N5,000 welfare package it plans for unemployed youth to projects that will create employment and have more enduring effects on beneficiaries than the planned allowance could do.
The group made the call in a statement issued and signed by its National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, saying, "Even though the 2016 budget is silent on N5000 welfare package for the unmeployed as promised by the party, it is our opinion that funds meant for that should be channeled to fruitful projects that would generate more employment; as such a package if implemented could fall into wrong hands and thereby defeat the purpose of its institution." The group however commended the federal government's decision to employ 500,000 teachers in the new fiscal year, saying that apart from reducing unemployment, it would improve the quality of education in public schools and enhance good performance of the candidates in their examinations.
