Police: How Suspected Ilorin Cultists Killed Victims
The Kwara State police command on Wednesday gave an insight into how a suspected cultist who struck in Ilorin recently used Tramadol "killer" tablet and Lacasera drink to drug victims before commencing his dastardly act on them.
During the incident, about 16 suspected cultists were feared killed, while the state police command had arrested about 45 persons in connection with the dastardly act.
The management of Kwara State Polytechnic at a press conference last Tuesday led by the Deputy Rector (Administration), Mr. Ahmed Aminu, said the students of the institution were not in session when the incident happened as they had finished their semester examinations and on holiday, adding that there was no student of the institution who died in the clash as being rumoured in certain quarters in the state.
The state House of Assembly had summoned the management of the polytechnic to appear before it to give account of what had happened in the school.
Parading the suspected cultists before journalists in Ilorin at the state police command headquarters, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi, and Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the suspect Adeniyi Sijibomi, 18 who was paraded alongside one John Onucho, 25, for being members of Eiye confraternity were allegedly involved in the recent killings of two persons in Ilorin.
Okasanmi, who paraded the two suspected cultists along with three others arrested for criminal conspiracy and theft of vehicles, said the suspect added a pain killer tablet called 'Tramadol' to the Lacacesra drink which he used to drug his victims before killing them.
He said: "On August 18, in a bid to arrest perpetrators of the last cult clashes in Ilorin which led to the killing of two young men, the command, in addition to suspects earlier arrested and charged to court also picked up Sijibomi and Onucho last week with arms used in the dastardly act."
The PPRO said two locally made pistols, two live cartridges and one expended cartridges were recovered from the suspects who according to him, "are all members of the Eiye confraternity."
Speaking further, he said: "In another development on August 17, based on a complaint made by one Bidemi Adewole 'F' Sapati-Ile area of Ilorin, two suspects Sijibomi and Tosin David of the same area and members of a cult group conspired to kill the complainant using a poison laden Lacasera drink. Suspects confessed committing the act with a view to dispossessing her of her sales proceeds."
Also paraded by the police were three car snatchers, Kehinde Olumo, Alhaji Oba Suleiman and Olayinka Jimoh, who allegedly conspired to steal and buy stolen cars.
The police image maker said the suspects specialises in removing engraved wind screen and rear glasses of stolen cars and replaced them before selling them to unsuspecting members of the public.
He said: "Through the intensified efforts of the men of the command Intelligence and Investigation Department, member of interstate vehicles thieves, especially from Lagos, Ogun and Oyo States, were arrested in Ilorin on August 17 by the anti-car theft of the command, and investigation revealed that the suspects are confirmed car snatchers."
The PPRO therefore said the command would soon take them to court when investigation into the matter is completed.
