PDP postpones primaries in Kwara

Date: 2013-08-23

The primaries were fixed for August 26.

The Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara, Yemi Afolayan, has announced the postponement of the party’s chairmanship and councillorship primaries scheduled for August 26 and 27.

Mr. Afolayan announced this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin on Thursday.

Although a new date had not been fixed, he explained that the postponement was to give the party enough room for consultation with the rank and file of the party.

He said the move was also to ensure that things were done properly.

The secretary noted that Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission had fixed a new date for submission of nomination forms by candidates.

“This gives PDP room to take necessary steps toward sustaining internal democracy among the aspirants,” he said.

Mr. Afolayan added that the party was putting necessary arrangements in place to ensure its victory at the polls.
