The memorial birthday of the former senate leader, great political titan and philanthropist was preceeded by a well organized football tournament tagged "Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki Memorial Cup." This league which was organized by Emirate Youth Forum engaged under 17 football teams from the three geo-political zones in the state.

On May 17th, the birthday of the late political titan, the final of the league was played between Baruten boys and Ilorin South boys at the Kwara state stadium; being a tough game with a draw, Ilorin South emerged the winner in a penalty shootout. Speaking at the event, Senator Bukola Saraki commended Emirate Youth Forum for the thoughtful plan in remembrance of Dr Olusola Saraki. "Also i am highly impressed by the passionate display of skills by these young Kwarans, the two teams worth the win but we can only have one winner" he said in the football spirit.

Senator Saraki further encouraged the young footballers to stay focused in developing their skill, as there are great opportunities ahead of them which they can only grab if they are prepared. He also challenge the government and the community at large to support these young people by providing them good platforms to develop their skill.

Shortly before the closing ceremony, the Honourable Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Barrister Razaq Atunwa in a frenzied atmosphere filled with celebration in the football spirit, handed the hosting flag over to Ilorin West Local Government, therefore, the host of Dr Olusola Saraki Memorial Cup 2014.
