Kwara Introduces Transporter Colour Codes to Strengthen Safety and Compliance
The Kwara State Government has introduced colour codes for all transporters in the state to enhance the identification of vehicles and improve public safety.
The initiative, announced by Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, Commissioner for Transportation, during a tripartite consultative meeting at the Ministry's headquarters in Ilorin on Wednesday, mandates transport operators to adopt specific colour schemes for their vehicles.
The commissioner reiterated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state, stating that the move aims to safeguard residents' lives and property. The meeting included leaders of transport unions, state security agency representatives, and ministry officials.
Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, urged all transporters to fully embrace the latest developments as a way of complementing government's effort in promoting an enabling ethical standard in its transport sector, and accelerating the visionary insight of the State Government on the "Smart-City Project", while integrating a reliable transportation system that promotes social tranquility.
The Commissioner further, disclosed that the government has concluded that, "Yellow Colour with green stripes is for all transporters working on shuttle buses and tricycles - as intra-state transport; while Green with the stripe of white is for the inter-states vehicles."
"Subject to this announcement, it has now become imperative for all the transport unions in Kwara to ensure strict compliance to the new State colour codes, which was unanimously agreed upon from today, 14th May, 2025; transporters will have till 30th of September, 2025 for full compliance, after which, violation to the rule shall attract serious sanctions", the Commissioner emphasized.
Giving his vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alh. Salau Kabir Abdullahi, appreciated the leadership of the road transport unions in Kwara for their cooperation with the government, and assured them of the maximum support of the Ministry.
In his remarks, the Chairman Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alh. AbdulRahman Olayinka Onikijipa, commended the government for what he described as a bold step, admitting that the measure will help to identify vehicles from Kwara and set them apart from vehicles from other states to reduce transportation-related atrocities.
Similarly, the Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alh. AbdulRazaq Arowoola, expressed total support to the initiative on the colour codes as it focused on safety, while assuring that all transport unions and their members would readily comply.
On their part, the Chairman, Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Alh. Saliu Gidado, the Chairman, National Association of Cooperative Transporters (NACT), Comrade Abdulazeez Musa Agaka, and the Vice Chairman, Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Alh. Abdullahi Atere, respectively applauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his untiring strides at developing the State and acknowledged his unprecedented prioritization of the safety and well-being of Kwarans.
The pronouncement of the colour codes for transporters in Kwara State again underscores the unwavering efforts of the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's led-administration to further reposition the transportation system and provide maximum surveillance against criminal elements, hiding under the guise of transportation business to perpetrate evil.
