The Kwara State House of Assembly has called for increased public awareness on the prevention of heart-related diseases, highlighting the significance of early detection and proactive health measures.

This motion, proposed by Rasaq Owolabi, representative of the Share/Oke-Ode constituency, was raised at Wednesday's plenary session in Ilorin. In his closing remarks, Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu urged the state government to instruct the Ministry of Health, alongside other relevant stakeholders, to establish long-term strategies for effectively managing and preventing heart-related conditions in the state.

Danladi-Salihu further emphasized the need for extensive health awareness initiatives aimed at promoting early diagnosis and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Mr Owolabi, the mover of the motion, identified heart diseases as a range of issues that could impede the heart's regular functions.

He cited excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, consuming fatty foods, and illegal drug abuse as potential causes of heart disease.

Other lawmakers praised Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq's administration for its efforts to improve the health sector and provide access to quality healthcare services for the citizens.
