Date: 2023-12-06

The Kwara State Ministry of Youth Development and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have held a strategic meeting in Ilorin, the state capital, on how to combat drug abuse within the state.

The Supervising Commissioner of the Ministry of Youth Development, Usman Yunusa-Lade, in his remarks at the meeting noted that the collaborative initiative is aimed to kickstart a comprehensive and far-reaching campaign.

“The meeting is coupled with robust sensitization programmes designed to tackle the root causes of drug abuse and raise awareness about its detrimental effects on the society.

“What makes this endeavour particularly commendable is the staunch backing it has received from the State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

“By actively endorsing and championing this initiative, Governor Abdulrazaq has showcased his commitment to fostering a healthier and more secure environment for the citizens of Kwara,” he said.

For his part, the Commander, Kwara State NDLEA, Mallam Mohammed Bashir Ibrahim, commended the governor for his support, adding that the statewide campaign is poised to incorporate multifaceted strategies, including educational initiatives, community engagement, and the dissemination of relevant information to various demographic groups.

Present at the meeting were the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drug Abuse, Control and Prevention, Mukail Olamilekan; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Alhaji Abdulrasak Babatunde Alabere; the Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA, Mallam Yusuf Gobir; the Director, Personnel Finance and Supply, Mrs. Funmilola Adenike Ajide; and the Director of Youth, Mallam Abdulsalam Akeem.
