Clerics Urge Saraki's Associates to Sustain Legacy

Date: 2012-12-25

Political associates and followers of the late strongman of Kwara politics, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki yesterday converged at his Ilofa country home, GRA, Ilorin to organise 40th day Fidau prayer in honour of the late political icon.
As early as 8 a.m, the associates, top government functionaries, well-wishers were seen in large number, moving to the country home of the late political icon to be part of the prayer.

Also at the venue of the prayer include, the state governor, Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed, Senator Bukola Saraki and his siblings as well as the widow of the late politician, Mrs. Morenike Saraki.
The Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammed Bashir Solihu, led the prayers.

In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Hussain Salman, urged the followers of the late politician to sustain his legacies.
He cautioned them against internal wrangling "so that what the late politician laboured for for decades will not go in vain."

Also in his sermon at the programme, a renown Islamic cleric, Sheikh AbdulRasaq Adama-Thani called on political leaders across the country to emulate the late Saraki's simple way of life.

Adam-Thani, who said the former Senate leader instead of being materialistic deployed his resources for humanitarian purposes, urged his associates and followers to emulate his exemplary conduct.

He said: "If our political leaders shun accumulation of material wealth just like the late Saraki did, the country will be a better place for us all to live."

The cleric who noted that the late politician "was not selfish, greedy and stingy like most politicians of today," reminded those in positions of authority of the inheritability of death.

Meanwhile, the governors of Osun and Ekiti States, Rauf Aregbesola and Dr. Kayode Fayemi yesterday extolled the virtues of Saraki as a leader who lived a life of service to the people.

The governors made the disclosure in their separate remarks yesterday in Ilorin during their condowlence visits to the Saraki family in their Ilofa GRA residence in Ilorin.

In his remark, Aregbesola said: "Dr. Olusola Saraki lived a life of absolute service to the people."
He said his life time was purely a public life which he used in assisting the people.

In his own comment, Fayemi described the late Saraki as a Doctor who treated the people beyond traditional medicine.
He noted that Saraki was also among those who supported the creation of Ekiti State.
He said his service was not only to Kwara, and the North but all over the country.

He said: "The only thing of joy is that Dr Saraki left behind a son who is capable of continuing with his legacies."
In his response, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki thanked the governors for their visit and prayers.
He assured them that the legacies of his late father would not be allowed to rot away.
