51 Polytechnics to participate in NIPOGA holding in Ilorin

Students from fifty one polytechnics across Nigeria will compete in 13 games during the Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) to be hosted by the Kwara State Polytechnic.

The Acting Rector of the State Polytechnic, Doctor Yekin Oyebode disclosed this in the institution while receiving members of the 2019 Press Week Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kwara State Council, who paid a courtesy visit to the management of the institution.

Dr Oyebode said the twentieth edition of the games would boost the economic activities of the State and showcase the cultural heritage of the state, particularly Ilorin community to the outside world.

He also said the institution had put in place necessary facilities towards hosting the best NIPOGA in the country.

According to him, "the 11 day games which will commence on December 4 will end on December 14, 2019".

Media support The Acting Rector solicited the support of the media in all the activities of the institution, particularly in the hosting of the games.

He disclosed that the polytechnic had been receiving support from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund) especially in building structures for research and academic purposes.

Dr Oyebode, however, noted that the management of the institution had concluded arrangement to move the Institute of Technology at the Mini campus of the University of Ilorin to the permanent site.

He pointed out that security architecture of the institution had been fortified, while cultism and other security challenges had been eradicated within the institution and its host communities.

The Chairman of the Press Week Committee, Muhammad Rabiu, while congratulating the polytechnic for securing the hosting right for the NIPOGA, called for synergy between the institution and members of the fourth estate of the realm towards achieving the desired objectives, especially in organising the best Press week for journalists in the State.
