Police Arraign 9 Friends For Allegedly Attacking Another With Stones, Broken Bottles

The police on Monday arraigned nine friends who allegedly attacked another friend with stone and bottles in an Ilorin Senior Magistrates' Court. Jamiu Abdulsalam, 38; Waheed Hassan, 35; Abdulrasaq Bolaji, 37; Abubakar Taofeeq, 27, Samson Babaleke, 27, Dauda Abdullahi, 29, Abubakar usman, 40, Hassan Isiaq, 39 and Salihu Yahaya, 40, were charged with criminal conspiracy, criminal force and assault, causing grievous hurt and theft.

The prosecutor, Insp Isaac Yakubu told the court that on Nov. 29, one Yusuf Jelili of opposite Tanke Primary School Ilorin reported the case at the 'F' Divisional Police station, Tanke, through a letter of petition.

Yakubu alleged that the complainant saw the nine accused persons and one Baba Musa, now at large, all of Tanke, Ilorin, attacked him with stones and broken bottles, in the name of disciplining him for disobeying their warning to stop smoking Indian hemp.

The prosecution said the complainant sustained deep cuts on his head and leftarm.

He alleged that the accused persons also stole the complainant's HTC handset, valued at N55, 000 and N64, 700 cash.

Yakubu said that during police investigation, the accused persons admitted that the y were "trying to discipline the complainant for disobeying their warning to stop smoking Indian hemp.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97, 265, 245, and 287 of the Penal Code Law.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the five count charges.

In a ruling, Magistrate W. B Saka, admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum of N10, 000 each and two surties each in like sum.

Saka adjourned the case until Jan. 16, for further mention.
