Major Cabinet Shake-up Imminent in Kwara
Determined to fulfil his campaign promises, Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, is set to carry out a major cabinet shake-up any moment from now, we can report.
The governor, it would be recalled, carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday July 3, 2012. The development confirmed National Pilot's exclusive report in its Volume 16, No 15, of Thursday 21st - Sunday 24th June, 2012.
The affected cabinet members then were Alhaji Sakariyawu A. Onimago from Ministry of Commerce and Cooperatives to Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development; Alhaji Raji Mohammed from Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development to Ministry of Commerce and Cooperatives.
Others were Mr Bode Olayemi from Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources; and Alhaji Mohammed Baba Kpan from Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The minor reshuffle came some two weeks after the newspaper had done a scorecard on each of the commissioners in the governor's cabinet with some performing far below expectations.
Meanwhile, Governor Ahmed is said to be fully prepared for a major reorganization of his cabinet due to what sources attributed to unimpressive performances of some of the commissioners.
A top government functionary told National Pilot last night that "the governor is sick and tired of certain members of his cabinet, who see their appointments as meal tickets."
The source, who craved anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, did not say specifically the likely cabinet members to go but fingers were pointed in the direction of those believed to have performed below expectations since their appointments.
It was reliably gathered that while those found to be incompetent to actualize the vision of the present administration and meet its set goals would be relieved of their portfolios, others would be reassigned with few retaining their current offices.
"The governor believes he needs to fast track development programmes and deliver on his campaign promises as a man of credibility and high sense of accountability. He feels those who don't share his vision to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor have no business in retaining their offices," disclosed the usually credible source.
The imminent change of guards, it was learnt, was also borne out of the need to bring in more credible people with fresh ideas and by extension put other political office holders in the state on their toes for efficient and effective service delivery.
Although there was nothing to suggest this at the last Council meeting, the rumor of the shake-up is said to be sending jitters down the spines of some commissioners with the resultant lobby for another change.
"This time around, the governor is determined to ease out those considered to be slowing him down in his giant strides to better the lots of Kwarans. You know he has just a half and two years left to complete his first term in office. So, there is no alternative to quality service delivery to the people," the source said.
