Emulate Kogi, Oyo, Kwara pensioner begs Govt

Date: 2017-05-20

A 1995 retiree from the Kwara State Ministry of Finance, Alhaja Edun Ajanat, is appealing to the Kwara State Government to emulate the governments of Kogi and Oyo states, and review their pensions so that they can at least afford food once a day.

She receives N3.500 as pension while her counterparts in Oyo and Kogi states earn up to N20,000 monthly. Alhaja Ajanat is also pleading with well meaning Nigerians to save her from untimely death of hunger.

She is asking for an interest-free loan to restart her business which she said is on the verge of collapse. Lamenting that her monthly pension of N3, 500 is not sufficient for her upkeep and other obligations, Alhaja Ajanat insisted that life had never been the same with her since she retired in 1995.

The death of her son, she described as one who was taken care of her, even when she was still in service, was a big blow to her.

Ajanat, said: "Since I retired, and after the death of my son, life has been very difficult for me. My business is no more doing well.

It is true that the government is not owing us pension, but the ridiculous N3,500 paid monthly is nothing to write home about.

I am also appealing to the state government to review our pension in line with that of other neighbouring states like Kogi and Oyo states where a pensioner of my status is being paid not less than N20, 000 monthly."
