SAs, boards' appointments to begin this month - Bibire

Date: 2016-03-08

They have anxiously awaited, even lobbied and frantically reached out to top government functionaries in the state to know their fate in the new Kwara cabinet.

Their anxiety reached an all time high as the New Year beckons, especially with the appointment of some of their colleagues and political associates.

But their fate was still hanging in the balance. At a time, they were hoping for a relief to their "endless political limbo", the financial situation in the state allegedly "scuttled" their expectations.

However, it was temporary and their long wait seems to be over, if the words of the Special Adviser Political to Kwara Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, Alhaji Usman Bibire Ajape, is anything to go by. This month, March to be precise, the governor has concluded plans to commence the appointments of the remaining aides and boards' appointments hitherto being stalled, he told this medium in an exclusive interview.

"He (Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed) will finally commence the appointments this month", Bibire added. According to him the governor is working round the clock to ensure that he fulfils and surpasses the promise he made to the people during the electioneering campaign.

After the inauguration of the executive in May 29, the issue of appointment of aides dominated the polity as lobby for consideration reportedly reach feverish pitch among politicians in the state.

But the non-appointment of the remaining aides and board members by Governor Ahmed more than nine months into his government, reportedly heightened tension and anxiety within political circles in the state. This medium had reported that backlog of salary arrears rocking the state government initially scuttled the proposed appointment as the governor was said to have stayed action on the issue pending the improvement of the state finances.

According to Bibire, who also attributed the initial delay to paucity of funds, the governor didn't abandon their employment but only appointed those that are strategically necessary to run the government with him in the light of present financial situation. The appointment of remaining aides and members of boards will commerce very soon. In fact, as from this month, there will be announcement of lots of appointments in the state by Governor Ahmed.

"The problem initially had been paucity of funds. If you look at most of the appointments that had been made, you will see that they are very strategic and some of these positions cannot be left vacant. This is not to say they are not also important because they very much do.

"The governor, being a strategist and financial Czar, who is poised to do everything to put Kwara among the committee of highflying states in the federation cannot say because of lack of funds, those appointments should not be made.

"Those portfolios on the long run will attract investment and funds to the state coffers which will be a significant addition to our already improved IGR", he stressed. He noted that the governor has a pact with the people, which he is always ready to fulfill, adding that people should "just keep faith with this administration and keep on supporting its to achieve all its laudable people oriented projects".

It would be recalled that few months ago, Governor Ahmed appointed Alhaji Salaudeen Hassan Gegele, Alhaji Alabi Olalekan and Abdullahi Musa as Personal Assistants on Political Matters to oversee Kwara Central, South and North respectively. Meanwhile, Moonlight reliably gathered that some of the remaining Special Advisers may be announced this week by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

According to a top government source who spoke with our reporter on the issue last night, the Governor is expected to announce the remaining Special Advisers likely from Isin, Moro, Patigi or Kaima among others. "You know the governor recently got the approval of the Kwara state House of Assembly for the additional appointment of three Special Advisers. They are likely to be directed this week along with the anointment of other board members.

It would be recalled that the Kwara State House of Assembly last month approved appointment of additional three Special Advisers for the Governor. The approval followed a request to that effects in a letter sent to the House by the Governor read by the Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad during Tuesday's plenary of the House.

The Governor in his message said the appointment of additional three Special Advisers has become imperative in view of exigencies of Government activities, adding that it is in consonance with section 196 sub section one of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The governor said in his message that the appointees would assist in effective distribution of dividends of democracy.
