Date: 2015-12-30

A Magistrate's Court in Ilorin, Kwara State yesterday remanded a 32-year-old man, Yohana Markus for allegedly killing one Mohammad Abubakar.

Magistrate O.M.Balogun ordered his remand at the Federal prison Yard, Oke-kura, Ilorin.

It was gathered that the case was transferred from Kaiama Division to Criminal investigation and Intelligence Ilorin; that on December 10, one Abubakar Hassan of kaiama, a vigilante attached to Vera village reported at the Division that on December 9, he received information that his son, Muhammad Abubakar who is a commercial motorcyclist was attacked, robbed and killed along Tunga-Maje road by suspected armed robbers and his body left in the bush while his motorcycle was taken away.

The complainant added that he saw his son last with the accused on his motorcycle at a farm settlement, thus he strongly suspected him to have killed his son.

The prosecution said, "Upon this suspicion, Yohanaa Markus was arrested at his hometown Kagoro, Kaduna State with the deceased's motorcycle and he confessed to committing the crime. It was also revealed that the accused intentionally robbed and killed him with axe".

The accused was arraigned over the two-count charge of armed robbery and culpable homicide, offences that are punishable under sections 1(2) and 221 of the penal code law.
