Taxi Driver, Okada Rider Die On Petrol Queue
Two people at the weekend died in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital while queuing to buy petrol.
The taxi driver and motorcyclist popularly known as Okada rider both died at different petrol stations, it was gathered.
It was gathered that the Okada rider, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained was crushed by a tipper while trying to properly position himself on the queue.
He was said to have died instantly as a result of a broken skull he sustained from the accident.
Policemen from Oloje divisional police station moved to the scene of the accident and evacuated the body.
The taxi driver identified as Daddy Mustapha of Isale Banni area of Ilorin, was said to have died shortly after buying fuel. It was gathered that after he bought the product, he could not drive his vehicle out of the filling station.
Motorists who queued behind him then approached him only to find out that he was no longer breathing. The deceased was buried according to Islamic rites.
Meanwhile, fuel scarcity has continued to bite hard, with commuters trekking long distance due to lack of vehicles on the roads.
At the University of Ilorin, which recently resumed for the 2015/2016 academic session, it was gathered that some students trek about 26 kilometres every day.
DailyTrust correspondent reports that the situation remains despite measures by the school management including extending the working hours of its shuttle transport service known as "simply move."
At the black market, a litre of petrol is being sold at the rate of N250, though security agents have continued to raid such markets.
