Nigeria, Cuba seal technology transfer deal

As part of its drive to seek global support to revive the economy, Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Cuban government on health-Technological Transfer.

The representative of the Cuban government and Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Carlo Sosa, at the occasion assured the Nigerian government that Cuba has all it takes to transform the health standard of Nigerians positively through technological transfer.

Mr. Sosa reiterated his country's commitment to assist Nigeria by sharing their acquired health - based knowledge with Nigeria. The Ambassador said historically, Cuba regards Nigeria as her ancestor. He went further to say that Cuban Government can not hesitate to exchange ideas with Nigerian scholars especially on research towards finding lasting solution to some dreaded health challenges both in Nigeria and Cuba.

The Ambassador expressed confidence that Cuba has, through research produced various vaccines that have sustained the country from some deadly diseases ravaging some countries in the world. "Cancer is no longer a threat to the lives of Cubans," he said.

According to him, the collaboration will not only be on health technological transfer but extends to Agricultural development in the two countries.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor A.G.Ambali, who represented Nigeria said Nigeria's choice for Cuba for the collaboration is not a misnomer, considering Cuba's expertise in health and research.

The Vice Chancellor stated that Cuba has global record of health advancement.

He said his institution decided to take the lead in this research- based partnership considering the interest and resolve of the university towards proffering solution to some health challenges like Cancer. The Vice Chancellor stated that for Nigeria to harness the dividend of the collaboration there is need to institutionalize the technical know-how acquired in the course of the collaboration. According to him, the Technological Transfer especially on the areas of health will entail exchange of visits and learning by both students of both countries especially as regards researches in health and Agriculture.

The President and Chief Executive Officer, Jatco Network International, Dr John Tor-Agbidye said the collaboration between Nigeria and Cuba in health improvement will be a major breakthrough in terms of laying a solid foundation for promoting good health for not only the present generation but for posterity.

He pledged that his agency as an international organization that promotes good health through the provision of supplements, like Green Supreme Barley products etc, will contribute in no mean way to ensure that the partnership will not only improve the health standard of Nigerians but add value to the growth of the nation's economy.

Dr John Tor-Agbidye appealed to Nongovernmental organizations both in Nigeria and in the Diaspora to key into this laudable collaboration to break the jinx of some dreaded diseases like cancer .According to Jatco Network International Helms-man, University of Ilorin has been known as one of the institutions in the world that give more credence to research.

He said that proper research and collaboration of this kind will make Nigerians stand a better chance of enjoying a better longevity more than any other country in the world considering the type of vegetation surrounding Nigeria.

It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari's led administration had sought for possible assistance from G7 countries in his bid to revamp the Nigerian economy in all facets by signing some bilateral and multilateral agreements to fats-track the process.
