Kwara begins evacuation of blocked drainage
Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWARMA) has embarked on the opening and evacuation of blocked drainage within Ilorin metropolis.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, the General Manager of the agency, Baba Jibir, said the move was to avoid flood.
He also said the action of the state government was to ensure the well being of the people since there had been prediction by meteorologists that there would be heavy downpour this year.
"All drainages in the major streets in Ilorin metropolis will be de-silted and we are carting away the evacuated sand so that it will not fall back. This precautionary move is to avoid flood because the present administration is a very responsible and responsive government," he said.
He said the KWARMA personnel had covered 40 per cent of the work, assuring that every part of the town would be covered before the end of May.
The GM warned the people against dumping of refuse in drainage, adding that precautionary steps must be taken to prevent flood disaster.
He also advised people to request for roro-bin and where there was none, he implored the people to assist the government in ensuring a healthy and safe environment.
