An Ilorin Magistrates' Court on Wednesday arraigned one Ode Agbo, 45, a farmer from Budo Baba Tapa, Malete, Kwara, for being responsible for two missing cows.

The prosecutor, Insp. Mojisola Olamokun, told the court that the accused was responsible for two cows which got missing since April 14, belonging to one Alhaji Mande Yusuf of Budo-Are, Malete Area, Kwara.

She said that Yusuf discovered in the month of March that five of his six cows that went for grazing returned back to the camp and all efforts to recover the mission cow proved abortive.

The prosecutor added that on April 6, one of the five cows was found dead at a farmland belonging to the accused as a result of machete wounds inflicted on its body.

Olamokun said this consequently made the complainant to believe and allege that the accused had a hand in the missing and killed cow, both valued at N200,000.

She noted that the accused is facing a one-count charge of cruelty to animal, contrary to Section 207 of Penal Code.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge against him and the prosecutor said investigation into the matter was yet to be completed.

The defence counsel, Adua Ismail, then prayed the court to grant bail to his client, saying the prosecutor did not oppose the bail as she had said that bail was at the court's discretion.

The Magistrate, Gbadeyan Kamson, consequently upheld the submission of the defence and granted bail to the accused and adjourned the case until May 20 for further mention.
