Date: 2014-10-08

Kwara PDP goes digital, launch website, other social media platforms The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday announced the official launch of the website of the party, www.kwarapdp.com, describing it as a milestone in the bid by the party to mobilise the public, particularly the youths ahead of the 2015 General Elections.

At a meeting of the party today which held at the party state secretariat in Ilorin, the PDP Chairman, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, said that the idea behind the website was to attract both new and old members and also the 'undecided'.

He said that the site will allow active online engagement between the party and the public and also enable the public to follow the party on social media and comments about issues pertinent to them.

In the same vein, Iyiola said that the social media platforms will afford every party member and aspirants a platform and channel to promote, engage and reach others with their political messages. "The relative ease and low costs of receiving information via the internet could reduce the barriers for citizens to learn about public matters."

"The vast amount of information available on the website gives citizen the opportunity to become more informed about public affairs, and thus more articulate in expressing their views, and more prone to become active concerning public and political matters."

"The website also enables two-way communications. This could strengthen and enhance the links between citizens and intermediary party organizations."

"The website constitutes a distinct type of opportunity for political participation which significantly diverges from traditional participation channels."

"Our mission is to enhance Kwara PDP's effort with an emphasis on Creating and Implementing an Online Mobilization Strategy, geared and raising awareness online, engage and convert online visitors into members, volunteers, supporters and donors."

"The website is accessible via www.kwarapdp.com. On the facebook, there is Kwara PDP and on twitter, our handle is @Kwarapdp1."

"We are all encouraged to like, popularize and engage the various social media handles from our individual mobile phones and computer. We are also encouraged to spread the gospel about the pages to our friends and other supporters of the party who are not privileged to be here today."

"To ensure that everybody is carried along, what the party is set out to do in the next few days is the aggressive marketing and popularization of the page. This measure, we believe, will ensure that party members and supporters and other members of the party get real-time information about the activities of the party."
