NGO Screens 2, 448 Women for Cancer in Kwara

Date: 2013-11-06

The LEAH Foundation, the pet project of the Wife of Kwara Governor, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, on Tuesday said it had screened 2, 448 women for cancer-related diseases.

The Press Secretary to the governor's wife, Mr Yinka Adeniyi, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.

Adeniyi said the foundation screened the women for breast lump, breast cancer, vagina discharge, cervical cancer and plasma.

He said that the foundation had a Cancer Screening Centre with the state of the art equipment and machines like mammogram machine.

Adeniyi said the foundation was detached from any government interference and had its own operational office and staff in Trinity Road, GRA, Ilorin.

The press secretary also said the foundation had other LEAH Centres, for computer training, Charity Restoration Scheme, Charity Medical Trust Fund and Infant Formula Support Programme.

Adeniyi said that though the foundation was a corporate entity, it derives its funds from donors, both locally and international donors.

He said the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Kwara chapter, state government, Travels Messengers Ltd., Yolas Consulting and Wellbeing Foundations, made donation to the foundation.

He dismissed the claim that the foundation might not survive after the tenure of Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed.

''As an NGO, fund would not be a problem because the bulk of the foundation's finance were from donor agencies in and outside the country,"he said. (NAN)
