Ilorin runway incident: Overland airlifts affected passengers
The airline in a statement signed by its Managing Director, Captain Edward Boyo, stated that all 50 passengers involved in the incident were airlifted from Ilorin on the flight to Ibadan and Lagos.
Boyo in the statement stated that 22 passengers disembarked at Ibadan Airport, while the other 28 passengers disembarked in Lagos, in addition to two other passengers that joined the flight at Ibadan airport.
The statement added, “Overland Airways is committed to the development of Nigeria’s growing economy, especially through the provision of dedicated air travel services to an increasing number of Nigeria’s hinterland airports.”
It would be recalled that an Overland flight 1186, an ATR 72 aircraft with registration number 5N-BPG from Abuja airport to Ilorin carrying 59 passengers and four crew on Saturday veered off the runway after a normal landing at the Ilorin Airport.
The incident occurred at 4.45pm according to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, but noted that there were no casualties recorded.
NCAA said that the Accident and Investigation Bureau, AIB, in conjunction with the regulatory body, had launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.
