Press Release: Belgore Went With His Two Ear Only - Baba Baako

Date: 2014-02-18

The leadership of the legacy parties in Kwara State in which Mr. Mohammed Dele Belgore, SAN claimed to be representing in his widely circulated speech during his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed his claim as an idle talk.

The chairmen and elders of the legacy parties in a statement issued in Ilorin on Tuesday and signed by Alhaji Baba Baako on behalf of the 11 party chairmen from the legacy parties - CPC,ACN and ANPP said the structure of the party in the Kwara Central Senatorial District is intact.

'We implore all discerning minds to take critical look at all the attendees of the decamping programme as organized by the former gubernatorial candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr. Mohammed Dele Belgore,SAN; you would found out that they were members of his campaign organization. Those that identified with him on that day were either the DG or Deputy DG of his campaign organisation in 2011.The meeting had no semblance of party structure or leadership - no serious party member attended the meeting.

'While we acknowledge that Mr. Belgore is at liberty at joining any political party of his choice, we take serious exception to concocted lies that are aimed at swaying undeserved popularity or acceptability. Those who understands the dynamics of the gentleman would recall that the 'green horn' belongs to the Mafia and could not coexist in any forum where competition would be promoted.

The statement also reviewed the recently concluded registration exercise in Kwara State with a view to charting a new course for the party.

'The membership registration exercise recently concluded in the state was a huge success and that testifies to the wider acceptability the party enjoys among the Kwara people. We salute the courage of the leadership of the party in the state and appreciate the logistic support rendered to all while the exercise lasted.

'It will not be out of place to also put on record the unholy attitude of some followers of Dr. Bukola Saraki that were either working covertly or overtly with the PDP in an attempt to undermine our collective effort particularly during the registration exercise. It is unheard that some individuals fed fat on the party from the fund released for the execution of the registration exercise. The story in the Kwara Central Senatorial District was almost the same in all the local government areas, for instance in Asa local government area, our registration officers (RO) have not been paid their stipend while in the remaining LGAs they were surcharged.

'We bring this to the careful notice of the party leaders in both Kwara and at the national level that these people may be difficult to trust with the party's vault in the future - especially as we approach general elections. How are we sure they are not working for the opposition? Can we ever evaluate what extent the damage the saboteurs can wreck in the future?' the statement queried.

The statement called on the leadership to look into the matter as a precondition for the future engagements of the party. The act of sabotage should not be underestimated.

Alhaji Baba Baako
Chairman, Elders & Chairmen of the Legacy Parties.
