Opinion: Is Nigeria worth serving?by AJAYI Abdullateef
Nigeria as a country, I believe, is not worth serving let alone dying for. What informed making such a statement is nothing but the attitude of our government and PENCOM towards the payment of death benefits to the next-of-kin of deceased federal civil servants.
The Federal Government is not helping matters as it is within its capacity to ensure that such payments are made within a very short period after the demise of its employees, in order to ensure that the families of the deceased do not suffer.
Ten years and above after the demise of many civil servants, their entitlements have yet to be paid not even after a series of screening by PENCOM and the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital. I wonder what legacy the Federal Government is leaving behind for its teeming youth population.
