Four Kwarans Among 68 Lawyers Approved for Senior Advocate of Nigeria Rank
Four legal practitioners from Kwara State have been approved for elevation to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) following the approval of 68 successful applicants by the Legal Practitioners' Privileges Committee (LPPC).
Among the successful candidates is the Kwara State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Sulyman Ibrahim.
The other Kwarans approved for the rank are Mohammed Abiodun Adelodun, Mas'ud Mobolaji Alabelewe, and Afees Hassan Adebayo.
The approval was announced in a statement dated July 23, 2026, and signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Eniola Akanbi.
According to the statement, the decision was reached during the committee's 174th Plenary Session held on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olalotunbo Kekere-Ekun.
The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is conferred on legal practitioners who have demonstrated exceptional distinction either as advocates in legal practice or as academics who have made outstanding contributions to legal scholarship.
The committee stated that all successful applicants are required to participate in and successfully complete a mandatory pre-swearing-in induction programme before the formal conferment of the rank.
It added that the date for the induction programme would be communicated to the successful applicants in due course.
The 68 successful lawyers are expected to be formally conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria during a swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026.
The LPPC also reminded all approved conferrees that, in accordance with the Legal Practitioners' Privileges Guidelines and the Rules of Professional Conduct 2023, they must refrain from publishing or encouraging the publication of congratulatory messages, advertisements or goodwill notices relating to their nomination or conferment.
The committee warned that any violation of the provisions could attract appropriate sanctions.
