Date: 2013-02-25

As a determined government, Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed like his predecessor, former Governor Abubakar Bukola Saraki when it came on board, had a retreat which served as road map for the administration  for the next four years.

A four years Medium Term Sector Strategy was what it was called.    The road map was set for virtually all  sectors of the Kwara State Economies with  facilitate economic growth and to ensure share prosperity for the good people of Kwara State.

The task of governance is a difficult one but with persistence and perseverance, the goals set for four years of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed was set rolling.

The Objectives of the four years tenure of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed in the Works and Transport sector inc1ude; provision and maintenance of motorable roads networks across the State, ensure free floor of traffic to ensure fast, safe and cost affective transportation system, provision of effective and efficient fire fighting and prevention services across the state: and to build road infrastructure that will help create economy, driving by agriculture with a view to creating employment opportunities.

A closer look at the Medium Term Sectoral Strategy of the Kwara State Ministry of Works and transport indicates that as part of the resolve of the present administration to take the State to the next level. Three hundred point thirty-nine, 300.39 km of on-going road projects, as well as the payment of the retention fee is expected to be achieved as a targeted goal for year 2012, with the aim of improving the socio-economic activities of the state.

The Ilorin Airport facilities are to be upgraded to an International standard so as to train pilots that will fly Air craft as well as those that can make repairs. Aviation College exist in Zaria but may not have the capacity to train aeronautic engineers. Though Kwara State is currently taking the lead at ensuring the      manpower development at the aviation sector.

In the transport sector however, the Medium Term Sectional Strategy of Ministry of Works and Transport is to construct 2 ferry boats ~s a mode of water transportation with the aim of ensuring conveyance of goods &:. passenger across the River Niger. So as to reduce the traffic of often experience on our roads. This will also provide employments for our youth who are engaged in this sector. No doubt it can be safety concluded that the Government of Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed a visionary one.

The establish of twelve (12) fire station across the state is equally an important part of the Ministry’s Medium Term Sectional Strategy. The Kwara State fire service can currently boost of six well equipped fire fighting trucks. The aim of the Kwara State Government is to ensure safety of life’s and property.

The last administration of Governor Bukola Saraki gave a boost to transport sector by embarking on pilot schedule of Mass Transit Train Scheme (MTTS) which run from Ilorin to Offa as a pilot scheme, with the aim of extending the services to other part of the State. This no doubt was generally accepted though presently had some challenges which will be over come in no distant time.

The establishment of MTIS is to’ reduce the cost of transportation for the citizenry of the State and to improve the socio-economic activities, the Kwara State Government in his (MTSS) Medium Term Sectoral Strategy is to construct (100) one hundred kilometers roads of asphalt overlay yearly. Which means within the life span of Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed Administration the State we will have (400) four hundred asphalt overlay of roads.

Rural/Feeder road is also an important aspect of MTTS, the Kwara State Government intends to open up 800km of feeder/rural roads, which will improves the lives of the rural dwellers, reduce rural/urban drift as well as improve the socio-economic activities in the benefiting communities. The zero tolerance for waste by the Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed facilitated the increase of the monthly subvention of Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWARMA).

The increase in the monthly subvention of the Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency has greatly improved their services, though the aims of the present administration is to have an effective, efficient and proactive agency that will improve the durability of our roads, by making them pot-:holes free, thereby reducing accidents on our roads.

The repositioning of the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority is asked focus in the MTSS. The Government of Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed is constantly signing it a lend that “its good here in Kwara”. The impact of this is the influcks of people into the State. Traffic jam no doubt is the consequence of urbanization. The KWARTMA is expected to ensure free flow of traffic arid the Governor of Dr. AbdulFatath Ahmed has equipped and is constantly will to improve on their facilities.

Conductively therefore, the Medium Term Sectional Strategy of Dr. AbduFatah Ahmed in all the sectors especially in the works and transport sector is a clear indication of Government that has purposeful leadership and focus and it is not surprising to see a lot of good things happening in Kwara State. It is incontestably a fact state “It is good here in Kwara.”
