A Rare Statesman: Governor AbdulRazaq Honours Chief Bisi Akande At 87
The Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has described the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief AbdulKareem Adebisi Akande, as a rare statesman whose life serves as a blueprint for integrity and selfless service to Nigeria.
Governor AbdulRazaq's tribute was delivered on Friday in Ila Orangun, Osun State, by the Kwara State Deputy Governor during a ceremony marking Chief Akande's 87th birthday. The Governor noted that the event was not merely a celebration of age, but a tribute to a leader who has earned universal respect through personal discipline and moral clarity.
Highlighting Chief Akande's profound impact on Nigeria's political landscape, the Governor particularly lauded his role as the pioneer National Chairman of the APC. He remarked that Akande's influence transcends party lines, stating that his wisdom and humility make him a national asset regardless of political affiliation.
"Chief Akande has earned universal respect through a combination of hard work, personal discipline, integrity, and grace," the Governor said, adding that his qualities should serve as a standard for anyone regarded as an elder in Nigerian society.
The celebration, which drew a high-powered audience including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, party stalwarts, and traditional rulers, also featured a birthday lecture. Delivered by Professor Odewumi Samuel Gbadebo, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, the lecture addressed the socio-economic pressures of population growth and inflation in Nigerian cities, using the host community of Ila Orangun as a case study.
Governor AbdulRazaq joined other national leaders in wishing the octogenarian continued good health and grace as he approaches his ninth decade.
