NPTF to Upgrade Ilorin Police Training School, Partner Kwara Garment Factory
The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has revealed plans to upgrade the Nigeria Police Training School in Ilorin, Kwara State, to world-class standards. The Fund also announced its intention to collaborate with the Kwara Garment Factory for the production of police uniforms.
The announcement follows a request by Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, during the opening of a two-day management retreat organized by the NPTF in Ilorin. The governor highlighted the potential of the state's garment factory to produce high-quality uniforms and called for the modernization of the Police Training School.
In response, the Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mohammed Sheidu, along with his management team, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the training school and the garment factory.
After the inspection, Sheidu assured the Kwara State government of the Fund's commitment to upgrading the training school's facilities and utilizing the garment factory to produce uniforms for the Nigeria Police Force.
He said that though the Ilorin Police Training School is meant for the training of recruits, the Funds would intervene in the rehabilitation and upgrading of its facilities to a world-class standard.
“The facilities (in the police training school) need to be upgraded to a world-class standard,” Sheidu said.
At the Kwara State government-owned Garment Factory, Sheidu initiated talks with officials of the factory for possible production of uniforms for officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force.
Impressed by the facilities on ground, Sheidu urged other state governments to replicate the same in their respective states to encourage local production and end the importation of textile materials.
