Kwara to create 14,500 jobs before May 2015
Kwara State government has disclosed that it would create 14,500 jobs before May 2015 as part of its effort to reduce crime in Nigeria.
Special Adviser to Kwara State Governor on Youth and Employment Matters, Alhaji Saka Babatunde who disclosed in Ilorin while presenting paper at the retreat organised by National Youth Council(NYC),Kwara State chapter, said youth unemployment has increased the rate of crime, insecurity and other social vices.
The governor's aide explained that neglect of youth in the area of jobs also led to stagnancy in economic development ,reduction in per capital Income which has multiplier effect on poverty.
"Youth unemployment and underemployment impose heavy social and economic costs, resulting in the loss of opportunities for economic growth and under-utilized investment.
"The recurrent social and economic problems associated with poverty and unemployment in Nigeria; and in particular, their devastating effects on the youths have continued to attract the attention of the Governments, Non-Governmental Organizations, Voluntary and International Agencies, Corporate Organizations and individuals on the urgent need to accord Youth Development a priority attention in order to arrest the scourge".
