Kwara NUJ Correspondents Pass Vote of Confidence in Chapel Leadership
According to a news report from Royal News, the members of the Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kwara State have expressed their full confidence in the leadership of the chapel, headed by Abdulhakeem Garba of Channels TV.
This vote of confidence was passed during an emergency congress, with the motion moved by Nicholas Uwerunonye of Daily Independent and seconded by Oluseyi Dasilva of Arise TV. The motion recognised the leadership's steadfastness in providing welfare and defending the rights of members, especially during the recently concluded state council election of the union.
Mr Uwerunonye, in his motion, commended the executive for displaying exceptional leadership qualities over the past five years, with various welfare programmes that have positively impacted the lives of chapel members.
He cited various welfare programmes that were implemented and various forms of assistance rendered to distressed members, among others.
While urging other chapels, councils and national body to always prioritise interest of members and avoid constant crisis, the Daily Independent correspondent prayed for continued God's guidance on the executive members and urged members to continue supporting them.
Seconding the motion, Oluseyi Dasilva of ARISE TV corroborated words of his colleague, saying that the present executive members have written the name of the chapel in gold to the envy of others.
He said even though they are doing what they were elected to do excellently, they should be commended and appreciated.
The chairman of the chapel, Abdulhakeem Garba, who was taken by surprise with the motion, initially, said there was no need for it since the EXCO was only performing its constitutional duties.
He was, however, reminded by the house that since it has to be taken since it is a motion.
A counter motion was asked in which nobody raised an objection.
He, therefore, thanked members of the chapel for the confidence reposed in the executive and called for more support and unity among members.
