Kwara State Government Warns Against Trading On Road Sides
Kwara state government has vowed to stop encroachment on roads by traders in some major markets in the state.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Mallam Shehu Ndanusa, made the statement while addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Ilorin.
The Commissioner said that environmental officers from the Ministry have started sensitising marketers in some major markets in the state, on the need to adhere strictly to the policy of the present administration.
“His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, warns against road encroachment, indiscriminate dumping of refuse and open defecation. Any trader found selling by the road side, disturbing motorists and other road users from moving freely will face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.
Ndanusa disclosed that starting from the first week of February, any marketer caught displaying goods on the pedestrian paths, medians and other areas that inhibit free movement of vehicles or people will have their goods confiscated.
He stated that the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on pedestrian paths, medians and any other unapproved dump site attracts a fine of N50,000 for individuals and N200,000 for corporate organisations or imprisonment.
The Commissioner therefore charged the public to join hands with the present administration in its bid to eradicate road encroachment, indiscriminate dumping of refuse and open defecation, to promote healthy living.
