Coach Dogo rues Kwara United's missed chances in defeat against Plateau United
Kwara United coach, Kabiru Dogo, was left to rue his side's failure to convert several gilt-edged chances in their 1-0 defeat to Plateau United in the quarter-final of the Federation Cup.
John Rotshak, on Sunday in Abuja, scored the only goal for Plateau United to knock out Kwara United and book a semi-final berth in the men's 2023 Federation Cup.
“Both in the first and second half we tried our best but failed to take our chances.
“The only difference between the two sides was that we failed to take our numerous chances while they converted from the few they created.
“As far as the game is concerned, I think we were better than Plateau United, but we were unlucky. That's football for you, coach Dogo said.
He explained that his lacked concentration towards the end of the first half, especially the defenders and the opponent capitalized on that one to get the result.
“I must say that this is one of the bad days that we can think of as far as Kwara United is concerned because were the better side.
“Look at the chances that we created, so many chances we created to bury the game, but unfortunately we couldn't get that result and we were punished by that,” Dogo lamented.
He admitted that Plateau United were a more experienced side and did their best to manage the game in the second half.
“Our opponents are a formidable side and have pedigree. Also, remember they represented the country on the continent last season.
“Look at what they did in the league this season, they finished strong even though they narrowly missed out of the top six, while Kwara United struggled and managed to survive relegation.
“They have a good coach and a good technical crew and so we respect them. But at the same time, Kwara United is not a bad side too and we were very unlucky to lose.
“Our greatest undoing was losing our playmaker, Ayobami Junior early in the game which affected us greatly.
“However, we made some changes and went all out in the second half as we had nothing to lose, but fell short at the end,” he said.
Kwara United finished eight on the NPFL Abridged League Group A 10-clubside table with 17 points from 18 games played.
