KWASU lecturer wins NCC research grant for smart grid development
Abdulwaheed Musa, a lecturer at the Kwara State University (KWASU), has been awarded a research grant by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The lecturer, who is from the department of electrical and computer engineering at KWASU, proposed research on smart grid interoperability and energy efficiency systems.
The NCC, in a letter signed by Kelechi Nwankwo, head of research and development, and Chinwe Maduabum, head of academia research support unit at the NCC, announced the approval of his proposal in a letter seen by TheCable.
A smart grid is an electricity supply network that uses digital communications technology to detect and react to local changes in usage.
The NCC said Musa's research potentially contributes to developing the communications industry in Nigeria.
"Reference is made to your proposal with the above title submitted July 2021 to the Nigerian Communications Commission," the letter reads.
"The commission appreciates your interest in developing the communications industry in Nigeria through the submission of your research proposal.
"Your proposal, alongside others, was assessed by an inter-agency committee of professionals drawn from various stakeholders.
"After evaluation, we are pleased to inform you that your research proposal was successful and therefore recommended for funding by the committee.
"Kindly be informed that the commission is inviting you for an award ceremony."
Photos obtained by TheCable showed the lecturer receiving the grant in an award event held on Thursday.
Musa is a doctor of engineering with specialisation in telecommunications and expertise in renewable energy, digital, and 5G technology.
