Opinion: Really, What Thief Steals Documents?

Date: 2012-10-15

By David Dagunduro

Let us talk about the recent robbery at the Kwara State Ministry of Finance. Let us keep our objectivity right next to us while we x-ray what really went down here. We could try to form series of theories that could be adopted by our ever inefficient men in black, maybe this would help the investigation being carried out secretly; if truly there's any going on. I must confess I have never taken out time to write a long piece as I am compelled to do right now. I would usually laugh at the occurrence of events in my ever laughable state, Kwara. This one is different, it requires the attention of all normal thinking Kwarans, sympathizers, observers and anyone who follows the dictatorship of the PD- led government in Kwara State. I won't deviate from the obvious; I'll leave the politics of ruler-ship for another day.

What got me started on this one; the town planning agent that designed the location of the Kwara State Ministry of Finance deserves a medal, you would be shocked to find out that the robbed location is right opposite the Police HQ Kwara State command, isn't that wonderful! The Ministry of Finance got robbed right under the nose of the police. That the Ministry of Finance designed to be in care of the police got robbed is not only preposterous to our hearings but has got an evil conspiracy oozing out around it.

The news of the robbery first got out on twitter. @kwhistleblower accused the Kwara State Govt of trying to cover it up, I joined in on demanding an explanation on why news of the robbery had to be down played like it was nothing important. We got the usual answer from the Kwara State Government, silence. Days went by with no response from the Kwara State Government. Suddenly what we feared happened, behold a write up in defence claiming blackmail by the opposition.

I believe by now this is no longer news as we all know the details of the robbery, lets walk ourselves through some basics on a critical thinking note. The robbers made a first attempt at the Ministry of Finance, they attacked the security guards and over powered them. They were however prevented from getting into the ministry by the burglary and security measures of the doors and windows. They gave up to attempt another day.

Behold, the robbers made a second attempt on this same ministry, only this time they came with all they needed to get into the ministry. All kinds of tools which included a generator and grenades to blow the door open. I have heard of silencers for guns, oblige me if you know of any for grenades. So, on a second attempt the robbers broke into the Ministry of Finance, worked their ways meticulously through all offices. They had the luxury of time to gather all transactional documents from 2003, ample time to collect hard drives and backup drives. I won't lie to you, I am laughing right now, cynical like what consortium of jokers rule Kwara State.

Now to the obvious: why wasn't the security level of the ministry raised after the first attempt? Why was the Kwara State Government silent on the first robbery attempt and even the second one? Why did the Police HQ allegedly direct the security man that escaped the ordeal to report the robbery while it was on-going to a division (division C) which had no jurisdiction around the Ministry of Finance and of a bit distance? Division A is just a street or two away! Why is the commissioner of finance still in his office? Why is the commissioner of police still in office? Why is this happening when the political godfather's ass is under SFU scrutiny? Was the police HQ moved from its location on the day of the robbery or the police just chose to stay deaf while the door bombing was going on? What thief would steal hard and soft copies of documents; seriously what thief steals document at all?

It would only be sane to think this wasn't just some mere robbery attack on the currencies in the Kwara Ministry of Finance! This is something bigger, some kind of cover up. We are not fools, we know and see what is going on. In a saner environment, the commissioner of finance would have either resigned or would have been fired for incompetence and gross negligence of the ministry he oversees. The commissioner of police would have either resigned or have been fired for incompetence and inability to effectively monitor the affairs of safeguarding the state of Kwara and its properties. They say you have to be able to prove act and motive to draw conclusions. For me, the Kwara State Government is just as guilty and as involved as the robbers who attacked and successfully robbed its ministry of finance. The act is staying mute like nothing happened and Silence is motive enough for me!
