Date: 2019-04-17

Kwara State House of Assembly has called on the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to urgently take over the recurrent expenditure of the modern police barracks in Offa, Offa Local Government Area of the state, built by the community through self help.

The police barracks was built by the people of Offa to enhance security of lives and property after the robbery attack in the town last year.

The house made the call sequel to a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon Saheed Popoola (Balogun / Ojomu Constituency) on the delay by the police high command in taking up the financial responsibility of running the police barracks since the community handed it over on 27th December, 2018.

Hon. Popoola said Offa Descendants Union had in a letter to the House solicited its assistance in ensuring that the police takes over the running of the police barracks.

The House Leader ,Hon Hassan Oyeleke, who seconded the motion, said police personnel in the barracks serve Kwara and adjoining states, adding that the community could not continue to shoulder the recurrent expenditure of the barracks.

According to him, Offa community has other pressing communal needs to attend to, a view shared by the member representing Oke Ogun Constituency, Hon Kamal Fagbemi.

Reading the resolutions of the House, the Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad who commended Offa community for the initiative, directed the Clerk of the House, Hajia Halimah Jummai Kperogi to forward the resolutions of the House to the Inspector of Police and copy the commissioner of Police in Kwara State.
